Custom Fb Tab Pages
A great way to create a custom tab

Simple iFrames Tutorial for Facebook
Create A Custom Page With "Static HTML iFrames Tab”

Information updated from article by Louise Steiner

While existing FBML pages continue to be supported by Facebook for the time being, new pages now have to be created in iFrames using HTML code.

Below is a 15 minute iFrames tutorial for Facebook that will walk you step by step through the process of creating a custom iFrames Tab and Page.

There are far more options available to create HTML code (which is used by iFrames) than there was with Facebook's FBML code. We can now create complete, dynamic web pages within Facebook without the limitations FBML imposed.

Support Note

While we do our best to give you the tools to complete most tasks by yourself, you may need help.

Design, social media and application development support tasks are billable at a very reasonable contract rate for our clients in quarter-hour increments.

App developers are creating new iFrame applications or upgrading existing FBML apps. After Louise test drove a number of these new Apps, she found one she loves. The application is called "Static HTML: iFrames Tab” and this is the App she uses for her iFrames tutorial below.

Why we like the "Static HTML iFrames Tab” App:

Here is a brief summary of why this Application work best.
  • Easy to use, one-click install
  • Can display content for fans and non-fans (fan-gating/reveal tab)
  • Includes FBML to iFrames converter
  • Can create up to 12 page tabs per business page (this number has increased from three since the video was created)
  • Customizable tab icon
  • Import webpage functionality
  • No appp vendor branding
  • Great support via the Facebook Wall from the developers, Jason Padvorac & Timothy Mensing
  • FREE for up to 3 tabs – $12/month for up to 12 page tabs
WebAdmin Integration

You can integrate WebAdmin or RocketCart pages right from your own website with some changes to the page structure in most cases. Facebook limits the size of the content area to 760 pixels and most newer website are up to 1000 pixels wide. When pages are wide than the allowed space in Facebook, Facebook throws up scroll bars. We aren't fans of scroll bars so we suggest allowing us to create special content or product pages that will fit within the dimensions. Plan to budget for 2-3 hours to add a custom page. The custom page will be used in WebAdmin for a new category of content that would be named something like "Facebook pages" in the space provided for .

The developers of this App, and Facebook for that matter, are working round the clock to iron out a multitude of problems and bugs. Be patient if something doesn't work quite right and please report it on the "Static HTML iFrame Tabs” Wall at the link below. The developers are pretty good at helping their users out.

As always we welcome your comments, additions and questions in the comments box below.
